CCTV & PRIVACY

CCTV in Qatar: scope, retention and secure maintenance.

Start with the facility’s obligations, then design the cameras, storage and maintenance around them.

Draft for Royaltech review. Regulatory wording requires approval before publication.

Legal scope: confirm the facility

Qatar Law 9 of 2011 applies to facilities defined by the law and applicable decisions. Article 6 requires 120-day recording retention for covered facilities. Do not apply this period indiscriminately to every installation. Review the official Arabic text and current MOI Security Systems Department requirements for the actual site.

Project checks before installation

Confirm applicable approvals, equipment specifications, camera positioning and prohibited areas, visible signage, access permissions and rules for disclosing recordings. Size storage against verified recording settings and the applicable retention/disposal requirement. A service listing does not establish Royaltech licensing or MOI approval.

Recommended maintenance controls

Keep cameras and NVRs updated, use unique credentials, limit remote viewing, isolate camera networks and log administrative access. Agree checks for recording continuity, time accuracy and storage health, plus authorized maintenance and inspection procedures. Avoid exposing an NVR directly to the internet.

Sources and scope

Planning recommendations are distinct from legal obligations. Confirm the rules and current specifications for your facility, sector and contract. This guide is not a certification or legal opinion.
